Jacqueline Fernandez grew up in Bahrain, Manama. She is Sri Lankan and comes from a diverse ethnic background. Jacqueline's parents are Malaysian and from Sri Lanka. Her father Elroy Fernandez comes from Sri Lanka. Jacqueline is the oldest of two brothers as well as a younger sister. The family moved to Bahrain in the late 1980s as a result of the Lankan civil unrest and hence her birth and education were in Bahrain. After graduating from school in Bahrain she was awarded the Scholarship at the University of Sydney to pursue a Media and Communications Degree in Sydney, Australia. As a lover of all the world of languages and cultures, she took part in the Berlitz school of languages, which is where she began to learn Spanish and improved her French and Arabic. Miss Sri Lanka 2006 competed in Miss Universe 2006 as well as Miss Universe 2006 when she was awarded the title in 2006. After winning Miss Sri Lanka in 2006, Padukone began working as a TV host. She was the host of the program Lanka Business Report which focused on the business of Sri Lanka. Padukone is her mother was the famous badminton star Prakash Padukone, was born in Copenhagen and grew up in Bangalore. In her teens she played in national championships of badminton at both the regional and international levels. But, she resigned from the game to pursue a career as a fashion designer. Padukone is of Mangalorean origins and speaks Konkani as her mother tongue. Padukone is a village in Kundapura Taluk of Karnataka's Udupi District. Prakash Padukone is her father and a former badminton star with international recognition. Her mother is a travel agent.
